Sammamma, a small scale dryland farmer from Bidakanne village, Sangareddy, Telangana, champions the practicability of regenerative agriculture, growing 15-20 diverse crops on her one-acre farm. She has been practicing the principles of permaculture in her life and her land ever since she learnt about it decades ago. Her biodiverse farm not only meets her needs for food, fodder, fuel, and fiber but also sustains the soil and minimizes pest issues. She emphasizes the crucial role of women in preserving seeds, crops, and food, serving as community leaders. Despite the focus on "good quality" seeds in agricultural circles, Sammamma advocates for local seeds, native foods, and cultural preservation as well.
She has travelled to different places to share her experiences and farming perspectives with fellow farmers, scientists, and policymakers. Her efforts transcended borders, advocating for sustainable agricultural practices and the significance of preserving indigenous knowledge. Currently, she is a community facilitator at Aranya Agricultural Alternatives.
